The Credit Union National Association on Monday debuted an online "election tracker" where users can track federal candidates the association is supporting in the primary and general elections.
Consider joining CEO Update. Membership gives full access to the latest intelligence on association management, career advancement, compensation trends and networking events, as well as hundreds of listings for senior-level association jobs.
CUNA's political action committee—the Credit Union Legislative Action Council—has pledged to spend a record $7 million during the upcoming election cycle, the association said in a statement. CUNA has also launched Credit Unions Vote, a resource for credit union members to find where they can register to vote, pinpoint their local polling location and engage in the political process.
The online tracker features an interactive map that allows users to see state-by-state which candidates credit unions support, and the status of their primary race. The page also features a full list of supported candidates across the country and will be updated as support is announced.
"Because elections have such an outsized impact on their members' well-being, credit unions take seriously their role in the electoral process," CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Political Action Trey Hawkins said in a statement. "This resource will allow CULAC donors and other credit union stakeholders to see CUNA's involvement in the 2020 elections in real time and track our success in electing officials who recognize the credit union difference in communities across the country."
CUNA noted that one in three Americans are credit union members, with 44% of credit union members registered to vote.
CUNA's PAC spent $5.2 million during the two-year 2018 election cycle, including $2.6 million in contributions to federal candidates, according to Federal Election Commission data analyzed by the Center for Responsive Politics.
